The In Between/Design strategy

Group work
Research Project
34 Kilburn High Rd, London NW6 5UA, UK
September-December 2022

By involving residents in the decision-making process through interviews, interactive games, and questionnaires, the interventions aim to align with the community's unique needs and aspirations. The project also explores innovative solutions for the built environment, incorporating elements like green spaces and communal areas. This proactive approach aims to create an immediate positive impact and lay the foundation for a resilient and vibrant community, bridging the transition to future regeneration.

To further explore our strategy, we used Craik Court and Crone Court in South Kilburn as our test sites. These locations provided valuable insights into how our modular units can be implemented effectively, ensuring minimal disruption while enhancing the connectivity and functionality of public spaces.

Scaffolding serves as a stable foundation during the construction period, making it a critical element in delivering our design strategy.

Our design strategy revolves around the structure of scaffolding. Modular units, each designed with different activity themes, can be flexibly integrated into the scaffolding framework.

These modular units are also designed to attach to public spaces between buildings, reducing interference with residents. This approach allows the modules to extend to adjacent buildings, creating a growing system that links various properties in South Kilburn.
